John is motivated by the community health missions of Second Opinions' clients and the opportunity for medical students to engage with the US healthcare system beyond the clinic. He graduated from the University of North Carolina as a Morehead-Cain Scholar in 2016 with a BS in Biology. Much of his time at UNC was spent working in various roles for the Community Empowerment Fund as a financial, housing, and health advocate for low/no-income residents of Chapel Hill, and that experience became the foundation for his interest in non-profit consulting and management. During his college career he also worked as an intern for the Handa Trauma Hospital in Cambodia, Genzyme Corporation, and the National Institutes of Health. John hopes to leverage his medical training and strategic development experience throughout his career as a physician.
